Room Size Matters
Don't forget the "Walk-Around" room. Ideally, you need 36 inches of clearance between the edge of the table and the nearest wall to allow people to slide their chairs back and walk behind seated guests.

Get a Quote NowThe "Perfect Fit" Guide
A table fits in a room physically, but does it fit visually? You need a minimum of 36 inches (3 feet) between the table edge and the wall (or buffet/couch).
Why? This allows a guest to slide their chair back to stand up without hitting the wall behind them.
A common design mistake is buying a rug that is too small. Your area rug should extend at least 24 inches past the table on all sides.
If the rug is too small, the back legs of the chairs will catch on the edge of the rug every time someone tries to sit down.
Our calculator assumes standard "Side Chairs" (no arms), which need about 24" of width per person.
Heads Up: If you plan to use large upholstered armchairs at the heads of the table, add an extra 6-10 inches to your table length to ensure they can tuck in fully under the table apron.
Standard Sizes Don't Fit?
Big box stores only sell standard sizes. We build custom tables to the exact inch your room requires.
