Raymond's Workshop Tip

Pricing Round Tables: Even though a 60" round table is a circle, you generally pay for the "Square" it was cut from.

Example: A 60" circle (5ft) requires a 5'x5' blank, which is 25 Sq Ft of material, even though the finished circle is only 19.6 Sq Ft. Always account for those cut-off corners in your pricing!

Circle Math for Woodworkers

1. The "Square Rule" (Pricing)

Even though a round table is a circle, you must buy the wood as a square.

The Math: A 60" circle (5ft) has an area of 19.6 sq ft. However, the 5'x5' square required to cut it is 25 sq ft. Always price your projects based on the square footage of the raw material, not the finished circle.

2. Why do I need Circumference?

Circumference is the distance around the edge. You need this number if you are planning to:
• Add a metal rim or base ring.
• Apply edge banding or veneer to the side.
• Calculate the amount of LED strip lighting needed for a backlight.

3. Radius vs. Diameter

Diameter: The full width of the table (used for seating capacity).
Radius: Half the width (from center to edge). You need this number if you are using a router jig to cut the circle yourself.
